The Technical Lead will serve in a capacity to elevate capabilities & services for our KoolDuct® System, a premium performance, pre-insulated ductwork solution offering benefits such as reduced installation time, low weight, space savings, and energy efficiency.  Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this integral team member will advance our value creation initiatives, by substantiating performance with testing and documentation that is compliant with Kingspan & industry requirements.  This individual must have a keen ability for evaluating complex technical situations, deriving workable solutions and executing plans to deliver results for sustaining solution relevance and driving innovation.  Key strategic deliverables include leading by influence for enrollment of internal & external resources, developing collaborative relationships with colleagues across the business and raising awareness around industry trends and requirements. 

Key Duties Include

Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Support all technical related items pertaining to KoolDuct® System including but not limited to:     

  1. Collaborate with Marketing & Sales to supply technical information required for creation of literature (Product Data Sheets, EPDs, Sustainability content, technical letters, white papers, etc.) and capturing project opportunities 
  2. Provide technical support & correspondence on product use, compatibility, troubleshooting, compliance, warranty questions and other related subjects 
  3. Support design, specification & installation efforts with Mechanical Engineers, Design-Build GCs & Mechanical Contractors  
  4. Provide thermal and dewpoint calculations, drawings, certifications 
  5. Develop and improve tools such as air leakage and energy consumption calculators to help communicate product value proposition  
  6. Maintain installation guides and provide best practice solutions through continued learning   
  7. Lead product testing & technical performance documentation efforts to maintain compliance with industry & Kingspan requirements. 
  8. Advance Sustainability & Innovation initiatives, such as LEED compliance and embodied carbon reduction 
  9. Establish appropriate involvement with relevant industry associations (i.e., ASHRAE, SMACNA, MCAA, NIA) to stay current on evolving design & performance requirements   
  10. Provide in-field & virtual support to address product education, fabrication, installation, jobsite inspections and other technical needs by Fabricators, Mechanical Contractors, and other key influencers

  2. Ensure that all duties related to product compliance are adhered to in accordance with the Product Compliance Policy, Laws, Regulations and market demands. 
  3. Responsible for all tasks to achieve compliance goals and demands of Compliance Management System. 
  4. Must raise concerns related to the Compliance Management System to their supervisor, manager, any member of the Leadership Team, or through the confidential whistle blower service.

Qualifications

Education and/or ExperienceRequires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physical Science from an accredited university plus at least 3 years of demonstrated experience in providing technical support, facilitating testing & authoring related documentation for building material products. 

 

Must have: 

  • Fluid mechanics and thermodynamics knowledge 
  • Understanding of principles of Heat Transfer & Psychrometrics 
  • Ability to gain an in-depth understanding of product features and benefits. 
  • Experience with HVAC & mechanical insulation would be a plus. 
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to multi-task and prioritize. 
  • Strong communication skills, effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.  
  • Experience and proficiency with business computer applications (Microsoft Office). 

 

Travel:  Travel will vary, but could be up to 50% at times between product testing initiatives; jobsite visits, attending industry events, visiting plants and attending intercompany meetings. 

 

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, and procedure manualsAbility to write complex reports and correspondence.    Must be able to communicate orally and written in English. 

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, etc.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometryAbility to forecast accurately. 

 

Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formAbility to deal with problems involving several variables in non-standardized situations. 

 

Certificate/License:  Valid driver’s license with record clean enough to be acceptable to our insurance carrier.
